URLAND creates, experiments, acts, investigates, builds. And in the Open Studios, in our own URLAND.space, we present our experiment. It is an ode to that which is not yet finished, the rawness of the working studio. Sometimes it’s research into/with a niche technology, other times a music show, then a text recital or perhaps a full try-out – become a participant and accomplice in a performance that may or may not be made.

L’Autunno, L’Estate, L’Inverno, La Primavera. Four seasons. Right?

URLAND deconstructs Vivaldi.

Every year, our sound artist Jimi, together with producer/DJ Alberta Balsam, takes on one part of Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and creates a unique, electronic adaptation of it. A clash between classical and electronic. A clash between how it used to sound and how it sounds now. The weather isn’t what it used to be. What Vivaldi captured in 1725 as a nature that neatly adhered to four seasons has become fiction: a nostalgic dream image of a world that no longer exists.

In 2028, the pieces of The Four Seasons will be combined into a single, grandiose full-length performance, perhaps even performed with an orchestra on an offshore drilling platform slowly being flooded… hey, dream big. In any case, it won’t be a tranquil synthesis, but a clash of four seasons that don’t grow softer, but more intense. What does the sensation of climate change sound like? URLAND is searching for the sound of a season we no longer know.

On October 1 and 2, 2026, you’ll see and hear L’Autunno during the Open Studio.

Last year’s piece, L’Estate (think: a heat wave ending in a massive storm), will also be released online that same week.

Starting point: … the machine is dead.. Long live the machine.
After the A.I.-generated Formerly Known As set the theater ablaze, a new movement rises from the ashes. More sensory, more alienating, more inimitable, more human than ever. Using an empty stage and a 16-speaker installation, Jimi, Marijn, and Thomas are working on a revival of human creativity. Which theatrical codes and foundations can we revise? What does technology do to the mind? Who glitches?
