A View From Nowhere
An URLAND coproduction
Four characters step onto the grass of a golf course. They don’t know each other personally, but all four are members of the Association Against Doubt. They’ve come there with a single goal: to record universal ideas about the world, thereby finally banishing doubt. Reluctantly, they begin to think, talk, stutter, and play golf. No one gets anywhere—not in thinking, not in talking, and not in playing golf—perhaps in stuttering. Yes, perhaps in stuttering.
In this musical and philosophical performance, the tension between the desire for certainty and the failure of speech is explored in a one-and-a-half-hour composition by Annelinde Bruijs. Following the success of Ground Floor at Orkater, A View From Nowhere marks the second collaboration between composer Annelinde Bruijs, writer Maartje Wortel, and director Suze Milius. With this work, they continue their musical exploration of the verbatim musical, in which spoken language forms the basis for a new libretto.
A View From Nowhere is a co-production of Studio Bruijs, Orkater, URLAND, Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot, and DeSingel (Antwerp).
URLANDer Marijn is responsible for the lighting design, and URLANDer Jimi for the sound design.
